Match Review - Round One

It was a bright sunny day that the goblins took to the field to begin the 2009 campaign. A home game to begin the year at the hallowed green turf of Kahibah.

Firstly Tennant has been awarded the captaincy this year. Hes put in the hard yards at training and throughout the trials had showed some seriously good form so thoroughly deserves this role. So onto the game…. Metford luckly got word on change of kickoff time so goblins and Cobras where rearing to go. A bit of a reshuffle at the back with rooster out, this saw Scotty don the gloves. Thanks again big man its always awesome to have a reserve keeper and a good one at that. So with a reshuffled backline the game kicked off. We got a bit caught up in putting the ball over the top and running at our opponents in the first half and playing central coast football. They too were just grabbing us on the counter with a couple of their strikers having a decent turn of pace on them. Our fist goal did come from this style of Play with I believe nick M sending one through for Matty G who slotted from a decent way out. Well done mate always nice to get that first one

At half time I mentioned we needed to start playing our football and stopping going over the top. I got this!. Tennant and Nick really controlled the mids in the 2nd half whilst Biggin and cam started to really fire. The defense wasnt at its best due to a few people out of position and we missed Scotty B’s booming voice at the back, something to work on this week at training. The next lot of goals were slotted by Biggin, great header mate with a perfect delivery form Nick M. Pez what can I say about the next one!! You’ve waited your whole life for that opportunity and well done make on putting it in. Biggin then cleaned up some loose ball in the box to get his second one for the day. The next goal by T$ showed why you follow the ball in!! Biggin put a header against the bar with T$ there to clean up the scraps. Their one goal was a bit of good work by their striker who skinned about three of us but also we should have been holding a better line, me and Mikey spoke about this being one of those times to hack and cop the penalty sweet haha.

Well done to Nick B, Chris and Cam for making Gobline debuts, all showed signs they are in for big years.

So out of that game I though a really good start. A bit scrappy and there’s a lot to work on but all in all was pretty happy. We got some strong players coming back in and I think Next weeks game at Dudley will show where we are really at

See you Tuesday, I apologize for not being there to help out last few weeks.
