Match Review - Round One
It was a bright sunny day that the goblins took to the field to begin the 2009 campaign. A home game to begin the year at the hallowed green turf of Kahibah.
Firstly Tennant has been awarded the captaincy this year. Hes put in the hard yards at training and throughout the trials had showed some seriously good form so thoroughly deserves this role. So onto the game…. Metford luckly got word on change of kickoff time so goblins and Cobras where rearing to go. A bit of a reshuffle at the back with rooster out, this saw Scotty don the gloves. Thanks again big man its always awesome to have a reserve keeper and a good one at that. So with a reshuffled backline the game kicked off. We got a bit caught up in putting the ball over the top and running at our opponents in the first half and playing central coast football. They too were just grabbing us on the counter with a couple of their strikers having a decent turn of pace on them. Our fist goal did come from this style of Play with I believe nick M sending one through for Matty G who slotted from a decent way out. Well done mate always nice to get that first one
At half time I mentioned we needed to start playing our football and stopping going over the top. I got this!. Tennant and Nick really controlled the mids in the 2nd half whilst Biggin and cam started to really fire. The defense wasnt at its best due to a few people out of position and we missed Scotty B’s booming voice at the back, something to work on this week at training. The next lot of goals were slotted by Biggin, great header mate with a perfect delivery form Nick M. Pez what can I say about the next one!! You’ve waited your whole life for that opportunity and well done make on putting it in. Biggin then cleaned up some loose ball in the box to get his second one for the day. The next goal by T$ showed why you follow the ball in!! Biggin put a header against the bar with T$ there to clean up the scraps. Their one goal was a bit of good work by their striker who skinned about three of us but also we should have been holding a better line, me and Mikey spoke about this being one of those times to hack and cop the penalty sweet haha.
Well done to Nick B, Chris and Cam for making Gobline debuts, all showed signs they are in for big years.
So out of that game I though a really good start. A bit scrappy and there’s a lot to work on but all in all was pretty happy. We got some strong players coming back in and I think Next weeks game at Dudley will show where we are really at
See you Tuesday, I apologize for not being there to help out last few weeks.
Well welcome again to another season of Goblin football
Firstly a welcome back to all the old greats and legends of the game from seasons gone by. A bit of a revamp this year with a few new faces around the traps. We say goodbye to Waddo (heart) Coully (Sydney) Ev (transferred) and Matty B (king St) and welcome in new recruits, Adam, Chris, Cam and Nick. These guys have shown some seriously good form at training and in the trials and big years are expected from all.
So how has the trial season been going? With have dominated!! Great performances on both occasions with an absolute drubbing of Garden Suburb 6-0 and a good fighting win against Azzuri 3-1. Cam has bagged a couple of good goals, his first, Matty g has found some early form in front and Pez has scored his one and only blinder goal for the season which will once again ensure his nude run takes place at the end of the year. At the back Chris and Scotty B have formed an outstanding partner ship in the sweeper and CB positions and after two games look like they have been playing together for years. Mikey has added a bit of fitness (could he get any fitter!?!?!) and has seriously improved his footwork to once again look like being the form LB in the comp. Adam and a fully fit T$ are looking the goods in the centre of the park, biggin and snowy are running around like there’s no tomorrow and the silent assassin Scotty R is still as good as ever. Nick Bates showed in the game against Gardo hell be a very handy acquisition as well. Guy hasn’t really been called on but has made 2-3 good saves to show hes a solid keeper who only gets better. Once we welcome Back Nick M and Boss the side only looks stronger.
So what do we want out of 09? The last two seasons have seen us push from being bottom of the ladder to a finals football team. Mark did a lot of hard work to get us there the first year and we continued that into our 2nd season of finals football. But the one thing remains, we have yet to win a game in September (or is it august haha). We missed out on the minor premiership by 1 point last year. So what I want to achieve this year is to make the semis, push for the minor premiership and win a finals game. Weve set fairly high standards for the goblins I know but I believe we have the team to do it this year. We’ve played 4 games of finals football so we know what it’s about. Lets though take it week at a time. Id like to set our first goal as winning the first game of the year as this game really cost us the minor premiership last year against a weak side. Our trial form has showed we are ready to go!
A few housekeeping duties, Mikey and I are once again running the team this year so if you’re not available or aren’t happy please contact either of us (this is with football related issues, I don’t give a shit about your personal life and am not a shoulder to cry on haha). Also well announce the captain at the first game of the year so think about who youd like leading the goblins around the park this year. Everyone is a candidate except me. Its one thing I am proud of brining to the goblins as I think Pez did an outstanding job of being our captain all last year and Id like to think whoever wears the band this year will be proud to lead a good bunch of blokes out onto the field every Saturday. We also want to have a fairly social calendar this year so I encourage everyone to hang around after the game and support the esky, and then hit the club after the game. Girl friends, wives, friends, family, kids etc are all welcome. Well also look to organize a few large get togethers throughout the year. Training shirts are being organized we should have some news on those in next few weeks.
So in conclusion welcome to Goblins 09: Its Time!!
See you at the Club
Lee
